Add in the fact that the payments processing industry has zero organic growth, and merchants can quickly become the proverbial whipping boy to help a processor meet their quarterly projections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sad part?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Merchants don\u2019t even know they\u2019re being whipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Ah, the beauty of hidden payment fees.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which is why we\u2019re generally not fans of payment processors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we get into specifics, here\u2019s a decent litmus test every merchant should apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you processing <a href=\"https:\/\/reformingretail.com\/index.php\/2022\/01\/04\/processing-your-payments-directly-with-a-processor-expect-the-abuse-to-get-worse\/\">directly with a large, public processor<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When was the last time you audited your statements?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your answer is yes, and more than six months ago, you\u2019re probably getting screwed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/joinaben.com\">Aben<\/a> has been helping larger merchants generate more sales by leveraging data from the card networks on top of data from payment processors, two things became increasingly obvious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, nearly every merchant is being fleeced on payments.
