ReformingRetail is continuing with a payments statement obfuscation series. We call it SOS for short, and it’s coincidentally a very appropriate acronym. We aim to publish an article in the series twice per month, but it really depends on the shenanigans that we see in the market. Both the statements and analysis are being provided by Merchant Cost Consulting, an advisory group of payments experts that helps merchants lower their processing rates.
These statements come from April and May of 2020.
Elavon
Elavon increased the rates for the same card categories between January and February – see the highlighted text here.
Paysafe
Paysafe has added what appears to be a bunch of fake fees. But no matter how hard they try, they will never unthrone Global Payments, the king of fake fees.
Worldpay
After much scrutiny, Merchant Cost Consulting found that Worldpay has finally changed its wording on their statements. “Worldpay’s changes showcase not only the interchange fees, but the non-qualified surcharges that they are adding on top of these fees and on top of their existing markup.”
