Ameranth, An Arguable Patent Troll, Forced to Pay Millions to Domino’s For Online Ordering Claims

Sometimes the good guys win.

Ameranth, which many in the restaurant industry – including us – often label a patent troll, is finally being given their comeuppance.

As we covered previously, Ameranth sought to benefit on an online ordering “patent” at the start of COVID, though their nefarious behavior goes back even further.

In what can only be described as a win for the industry, the courts finally ordered Ameranth to pay Domino’s $2.79M in attorney’s fees. Domino’s, of course, was not the only innocent entity that came under Ameranth’s wrath, so expect a long queue of both restaurant brands and technology companies to use the Domnio’s precedent and seek restitution from Ameranth.

Of course collecting any owed funds might be another issue, as this could very well (and we hope does) bankrupt Ameranth. Some defendants will also just seek dismissal of any remaining issues in the lawsuit to end the matter without further expense.

Giant middle finger to you, Ameranth. Thank you for wasting everyone’s time, money, and preventing progress. Just think: if everyone were a patent troll we’d still be eating bugs in caves and dying at the age of 24.

Meanwhile, Ameranth be like:

If only we found a way to buy a patent on life…
