To Catch A Predator: EVO Payments (Now Global Payments)

This statement came from EVO in November of 2022.

This just happened to be three months after Global Payments announced the acquisition of EVO.

Not saying that EVO was an angel – far from it – but the gravitational pull of the perhaps the biggest fake-fee-offender is too much.

It could be coincidence.

Or it could be Jeff Sloan.

No telling.

What we can tell is that this statement is chock full of nonsense.

The amount of fees are insane.

AVS fees.

Bank service fee.

Batch fee.

Notification fee.

PCI compliance and noncompliance fees.

Refund fee.

Risk assessment fee.

It’s $200 a month of total nonsense.

Per location.

To add salt to the wound, it looks like EVO will be adding even more fees in the following month.

We love how they don’t even specify the increase: they provide a general range of $15-$60.

Who the fuck can get away with this?

“Well we’re going to charge you for a ‘product’ that isn’t a product and has no actual costs”

“Okay, how much is it?”

“It’s…. $15 a month… to… uh… $60?”

Waits for customer reaction.

“Yea, $60 per month.”

Of course this is all manufactured because ain’t nobody reading the customer’s reaction on fee increases: they just ram them through.

How it pays to be a payments bro.
